The Film and the Book

Me just now saw the film"50 First Dates"- wonderfull movie. As most would have seen the movie by now, the story line is a different yet thoughtful one. A guy falls in love with a girl who had lost her short term memory in a car accident. She is able to remember only the events till the previous nights and all the subsequent days have gone unremembered. She would be able to remember the day's events only for that day. Sleep and it is gone. The guy who falls in love with her is a researcher(a veteni.) and a non commital man. He doesnt want to commit to any one till he sees her. He loves her all day and she forgets him the next day. He had to start it all once again the next day. The Director has also made it possible to not only laugh at the scenes but also sympthathise with people affected by this syndrome. There comes a guy in the film whose memeory lasts only for 10 seconds. Apart from the stunning locales, the movie has a strong comic sense running thru it and also makes the watcher sympthathise with "Lucy". The scene in which she asks him whether he loves her, the guy first stammers, tells that he comes to the same restaurant everyday to see her and spend time with her and finally accpets he loves her. That scene was amazingly done. Other scene was the one, in which he shoots all the Day's activities and shows her them in the morning and she asks" How many times I have seen this video?". The strength of the question strikes the watcher yet it brings laughter. Nice film after a long time.
Also reading a book of Porter-"Post- Capitalist Society". Nice book and as usual with Porter-revolutionary ideas. His aneathema to socialism is well known and he proves it by telling this-" Darwin, Marx, Freud is the trinity often cited as the "Makers" of the world. Marx would be taken out and replaced by F.W.Taylor, if there were any Justice in the world". But I think in all fairness to Marx we need to acknowledge the fact that had he not been there, we wouldnt have got a Philosophy that changed the world forever. The power of the philosophy is great to this date, but the manner in which it had been understood and implemented in the world leaves much to be desired, and may be a reason for its failure. It might be satisfying to say that " I said Communism will Fail even b4 1989" but what would have happened had Gorbhoshev not implemented Glasnost and Perestorika. God only knows. It is always easy to claim to have predicted an event after it had happened. This doesnt mean that I support Socialism. Iam undecided at this point about my idealogical leanings, coz I like the ideals of Socialism, but the way it is Implemented- Sorry

A LITTLE BIT OF LUCK WILL DO FOR ALL OF US.

His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse
surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.
"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."
"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel.

"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.

"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of." And that he did. Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of
Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia.
What saved his life this time? Penicillin.
The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill.
His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill.

Just now I got a feeling- How stupid is it to count the number of visits to ur blog site. What do I really aim to achieve by doing that?. I dont want to count the number of visits to my site and claim I have become popular. Blog as i started was to just key in my thoughts and get my mind free of them. May be it is personal too. But should i have to count, to achieve this?. The other "Alangaarams" to my blog may be ok, but i think i shouldnt put this counter here. This itself is a momentary thought. So i will wait till my mind settles down and if i feel this has to go then i will take it off from the page

High cut-offs don't always mean top-notch results

My ego has been feeded after this news. All my cribbing about not getting into IIT or an IIM as my parents and friends would liked or expected would now reduce( Atleast till I Forget this news). But sure there is still and will be some disappointment in that. But, Iam content with what I have now. May be later I will fulfill my desires. Coming back to the intended topic, this problem cannot be solved, because u cannot expect people to peak every time. There are some time period for people to peak and it is just a coincidence that they happen to peak at the time of examz. But for that I think all are equally gifted and talented. May be the interests are different and the prespectives differ.
Thats what I can think of now. Free for the rest of the day(Virtual not real). Thinking of the work ahead I know Iam barely free. But this blog stuff has enthused me beyond my own imagination, that i still continue inspite of everything.

Yesterday, went to our old room in the hostel. Last year we stayed at room number 418 and this year we have moved on to 218. Just out of curiosity want to know who is there in that room. Really disgusted. The guy there doesnt seem to be in the mould of management. I am surprised to find him meak and very reluctant to speak. May be he was busy with something. But I didnt carry very good impression( In the sense how we were in the beginning). He is from Mumbai and it surprised me more.I have thought that people from big metros would be more outgoing but had to adjust my views.

The summer project presentation hasnt got off. As the Head Home Finance and our Guide told me I didnt go for the presentation. But only after coming here I came to know that my Project Mate(Classmate too ) Jayesh has cancelled the presentation. I dont know how will that go down with the company. But Still we havent received our feedback forms and the certificates from the company. That had to be submitted here in the institute b4 this monady. I dont what will we be doin. God will save us. Amen.

Started my NGO report preparation. It is a very cumberesome process. I should have maintained a soft copy of the details I gave to CRY . But cribbing now is of no use. I will prepare the report once again. Also important today was the class on Organisational Psychology. I like the subject Psycology and it was interesting. It seems there wont be any exams as such in this module only our participation in the class through submissions and presentations. Its very hard to imagine a system without exams but yet it feels very good atleast to hear there wont be any exams. The first class was a defreezing session as "She"- Our course instructor Prof.Anuradha put it. She was giving us certian topics like Structural Analysis, Script Writing, Life Positioning Analysis, Ego etc., I know a bit about Ego(Most people know), so I volunteered to present over that topic and two others joined me. So thus started our ORPY class and soon i found it to be much more interesting. The definition of Ego as she told was "Identity of being a Human" which assumes only Humans have Ego, whereas it is a common knowledge that every living being in this world( inculding Tree and plants) have Ego.
The class revolved around these issues for quite some time and then she told that the structural stuff is determined genetically and that cannot be changed. I didnt understnad this. Anybody from psychology background plz explain me this

This Brand Management stuff is really funny. What is a Brand?. Is it just the name of the product that u go and buy or is it something more than that?. why is that we see companies buying small but popular companies and then changing the entire setup and so losing the identity of the smaller yet successful venture. If u can levearge ur brand value then why do companies enter into alliances?. cant they take care of their own brand. if u have a certain brand image it means u cannot aford to change that image. but will it be OK if u can upgrade that image( Whatever u may mean by Upgrading)but suicidical if u try to come down. For Ex. Mercedes Benz can think of launching a Rs.10 Crore Car but can it think of launching a Rs.1 Lakh car?. Even in a country like India where people would buy a 1 Lak car like Hot cakes Benz's car will not find takers or will it?

Classes started 2day, gave a class in sales management. I still wonder why i took this paper in first place. Took all the HR electives first and satisfied with that. But then two papers were scraped because of less students opting for it. Then out of compulsion took 2 papers of marketing- sales and brand. ofcourse brand management i can connect but sales i donno how that would b interesting to me. have to wait n watch. but this is a known devil rather than an unknown finance angel. Then what else is there. Yesterday got some guys from the Junior Batch- mostly Tamil Guys out for a stroll. will be meeting them today also. Nice bunch of guys, but i still not sure whether that sort of bonding we had with our seniors especially with two of them would be here with these guys. Those were some of the best moments in my life at TAPMI. One is working at RAMCO Systems and the other at Sterlite.
Got to know how to post Tamil Bloggs. would like to do it in my mother tongue.

I thought this(Blogging) would die down after some nice and fantastic postings. Thanks it didnt. Got used to abandoning so many ideas after the initial euphoria. Unable to get out of that mind set. Thought of making some new space saving features like a drop down menu for various links. But the program isn't working properly. Need to debugs it.
Thinking what would be the use of Bloggs for me other than just putting my thoughts for public view. This would it be useful in any sense. Is it just like the new toy gifted to a kid- the attraction fades away by the day and at the end of a week the toy itself wouldn't be there. Also want to blog in Tamil but dont knou how. Have to do a fact finding session on it and then incorporate it here.
The train journey as usual throws up many an interesting characters. One such was a man in his late 30's who borrowed "The Hindu" which I bought at Calicut Station. He started reading the Newspaper at around 9.15 AM and hasnt finished it till around 11.00. He has been reading all the news inculding classifieds and advertisements and Tender Notices. Infact I have bought the paper Just then and was planning to read it along with the Breakfast.Had to swallow the Breakfast without the taste of news.

Back in TAPMI. After a gap of three months back to manipal and TAPMI. feels Good. has to look at the changes that had takeb place here in TAPMI and Manipal. also has lots of stuff to blog about- instances in Chennai. will continue some time later

Is it not time that we create a Tamil name for Blogging. Can it be called "Innaya Korvai" or "Innaya Thoguppu" or " Innaya Karuthhu" or "Innaya Naatthoguppu" or "Innaya Natkurippu". What can it be called?. The E-mail was given a better name as "MinAnjal". The Internet was given a name "Innayam", and anything and everything that came along with it has been given a name almost immediately. why not give a name to the blogging? The act of Blogging itslef can be called as "Minkurithhal" and the bloggs as "Minkurrippu". Atleast this is what i can think at this moment. If anybody can come up with a better and a more meaningfull name for the tool- better. Uyar thani semmozhiyaam Thamizh thannai melum Uyarthuyom".
What can be done?.Something has to be done and done soon.
Kaalam Kadathuthal Muraiyalla.

This has been the longest gap yet from my start of Blogging. Now Iam with CRY doing my NGO Project. Has many things to blogg about including the first all Tamil BLog that i came across yesterday. Now Iam into a real project with CRY. Tomorrow i need to finish off this thing and start to my native. I will be there for around a week meeting all my relatives and friends. Let me start seriuos blogging once i return back to manipal which is just a week away.
