Sunday, May 30, 2004Saw YUVA yesterday- Good film- certainly not for the masses. The music scores in many places- when ever there is character shown in the film , one of the songs associated with him comes in the back ground slowly as a tender hand thru the top of paddy field.(Unable to translate Tamil into English- what can I call Thendral n Pasumpayir) Then the moodes and motives are clearly brought out by the actors except Vivek- he always opens his eyes wide open to signify surprise- even iam surprised. The cinematograpghyand the camera- hats off. Especially the blue wide expense of the sea in the song with Vivek and Karina- sexy in one word. There are some gaping holes in the story line too. The Story as such doesn't have a "END"- this might not work well with the masses. It may go down well with the metros -"Classical" people. The song "Jaane do--" may be good in Hindi but if the song has the same scenes in Tamil then it would look awfully out of track-imagine guys with tattoos and girls half clad in jeans and waist lines singing- "yaakai thiri"- meaning "Body is wick n love is Fire"- the words "Yaakai" out of use even in the most literary worlds. Similarly words like "Pingalam"- nobody even understands them now. n the most hippiest of people who speak English even with their parents speaking these words in song- atrocious.
